Data Retention Settings

Data retention settings tell Black Duck Binary Analysis how long to keep binary files and other artifacts after your scan is complete. They can be set at the group level or at the account level (companywide). Note that individual scans can be protected from the data retention setting, meaning that the binary files and scan results for those scans will never be deleted.

Changing Data Retention Settings Across Your Account or Company (for All Groups)

  1. From the Home page, navigate to Account settings.
  2. Click on Data retention in the menu.
  3. The toggle switch for Remove scanned binaries is ON by default. Scanned binaries are removed after the scan.
  4. Set one or both of the fields (one to remove only the binary files and one to remove both the binaries and the analysis data). Note that they both remove the binary files, so setting both fields may not be needed, unless you want the analysis files to be retained longer than the binaries.

The changes will apply to all your uploads for that group.

Changing Data Retention Settings for a Group

  1. Navigate to Manage groups from Shortcuts.
  2. Choose a group
  3. Select the Edit link to the far right, on the same row as the group name.
  4. On the Edit (groupname) page, select Data retention in the Group settings menu.
  5. Set one or both of the fields (one to remove just the binary files and one to remove both the binaries and the analysis data). Note that they both remove the binary files, so setting both fields may not be needed, unless you want the analysis files to be retained longer than the binaries.

Note the following:

  • Group settings take precedence over account-wide settings, whether they allow more time or less time for the binaries to remain.
  • If no group settings are selected, the account settings (if any) are applied by default.
  • You can disable data retention by clearing the fields in the account settings form.

Maximum group size on disk

You can set the maximum size of your group on disk by going to Home > Select your group > Group settings > Scan. Setting the value to 0 disables the limit. The maximum value is 1000000.
